DeviceNet Fieldbus system

What is DeviceNet?

DeviceNet is an open fieldbus standard based on CAN which was developed by Rockwell Automation and which is used in industrial automation. The CAN bus serves as the basis. DeviceNet enables communication between devices made by different manufacturers without any special interface adaptations.

DeviceNet Products

DeviceNet ASi Gateways

DeviceNet AS-i 3.0 Gateways in stainless steel provide an interface for a DeviceNet fieldbus. These AS-i gateways are available in various versions with IP20 protection rating.

Standard devices

"Single Master":

1 ASi network, 1 ASi Master.

"Double Master":

2 ASi networks, 2 ASi Masters.

Safety devices

"Single Master" :
1 ASi network, 1 ASi Master.

"Double Master" :
2 ASi networks, 2 ASi Masters.

"Optional ASi Safety coupling circuit" :
2 ASi networks, 1 ASi Master.

Number of ASi networks, number of ASi Master

" yes, max. 4 A/ASi network ":
Cost-effective power for 2 ASi networks with 1 power supply (optionally supply of multiple Single Gateways by 1 power supply).

Operation with short cable lengths with standard 24 V power supply possible.

"no, max. 8 A/ASi network, redundant supply ":
1 ASi power supply per ASi network. Gateway is powered in normal operation from one of the two ASi power supplies.

Should one ASi power supply fail, switching to the other ASi power supply allows all the diagnostics functions to be maintained and the unaffected ASi network continues to operate.

" no, max. 8 A/ASi network ":

1 ASi power supply per ASi network.

1 power supply, 1 gateway for 2 ASi networks, inexpensive power supplies

"USB":

Access to ASi Master and Safety Monitor with Bihl+Wiedemann proprietary software by using the USB interface.

"Ethernet fieldbus"

Access to ASi Master and Safety Monitor with Bihl+Wiedemann software by using the Ethernet fieldbus interface.

"Ethernet fieldbus + Ethernet diagnostic":

Access to ASi Master and Safety Monitor with Bihl+Wiedemann software by using the Ethernet diagnostic interface or Ethernet fieldbus interface.

"Ethernet diagnostic":

Access to ASi Master and Safety Monitor with Bihl+Wiedemann software by using the Ethernet diagnostic interface.

"Ethernet diagnostic + Modbus TCP diagnostic":

Access to ASi Master and Safety Monitor with Bihl+Wiedemann software or via Modbus TCP by using the Ethernet diagnostic interface.

For a full-fledged Modbus TCP fieldbus interface use one of our Modbus TCP gateways in stainless steel or Modbus TCP gateways with integrated safety monitor.

"Ethernet fieldbus + RS 232":

Access to ASi Master and Safety Monitor with Bihl+Wiedemann software by using the Ethernet fieldbus interface or by using an adapter cable via RS 232 interface.

"RS 232":

Access to ASi Master and Safety Monitor with Bihl+Wiedemann software by using an adapter cable via RS 232 interface.

The latest version of the device description file of the gateway/gateway with integrated safety monitor (GSD, GSDML, EDS, etc.) is available in the "Downloads" section of the respective device.

Diagnostic and configuration interface

Detects whether the same address has been assigned to two ASi slaves. Frequent error when using a handheld addressing device.

Recognition of duplicate ASi addresses

Checks the ASi line for interference effects such as noise, external voltages, ...

ASi fault detector

Using a C-program offers the possibility to run mini-PLC functions with a gateway.

DeviceNet Master Simulator

The DeviceNet Master Simulator is an easy to use software for data exchange with DeviceNet slaves of many suppliers. The DeviceNet Master Simulator can exchange data with the slaves even without EDS-file. Input data can be read, output data can be written and the DeviceNet diagnosis can be displayed. Furthermore it is possible to read and write any object independent of the state of communication.

The DeviceNet Master Simulator offers the possibility to scan a DeviceNet network and find all connected slaves. The I/O data is displayed binary and hexadecimal. In single bit mode it is possible to set an output as long as the mouse button is pressed. The device identification is read out of the DeviceNet slave and displayed together with the I/O data.

The DeviceNet Master Simulator consists of the software and a DeviceNet dongle. The DeviceNet dongle is the ideal interface converter between an USB port (the parallel interface of a PC) and DeviceNet. The converter needs no extra power supply. Therefore it is also suitable for mobile use with a laptop or a notebook.
