Sercos Fieldbus system

What is Sercos?

Sercos (Serial real-time communication system) is an open, manufacturer-independent fieldbus standard that is used in industrial automation. As an IEC-standardized open interface, Sercos enables serial high-speed real-time communication without special interface adaptations – e.g. between industrial controllers, motion devices, inputs and outputs, other peripheral devices and standard Ethernet nodes. Sercos is often used in demanding applications with high requirements for dynamics and precision.

Sercos Gateways

Safety, Sercos ASi Gateways

The certified ASi Sercos Gateways with integrated safety monitor provide an interface for a Sercos fieldbus. These ASi gateways are available in various versions with IP20 protection rating. All gateways feature Safe Link technology, which makes it possible to connect different parts of the system easily and flexibly. They all also have an Ethernet diagnostic interface for convenient diagnostics. They also include an OPC UA server, which can be used to transfer all process data and additional information to the IT world.

Number of ASi networks, number of ASi Master

" yes, max. 4 A/ASi network ":

Data decoupling integrated in the gateway. Cost-effective power for 2 ASi networks with 1 power supply (optionally supply of multiple Single Gateways by 1 power supply).

Operation with short cable lengths with standard 24 V power supply possible.

" yes, max. 8 A/ASi network ":

"yes, optimized for 2 x NEC class 2 power supplies"

Data decoupling integrated in the gateway. Optimized for use with 2 x UL certified 30 V/3 A power supplies with power limitation <100 W (BW4223). In combination 2 separate NEC Class 2 compliant ASi circuits are created.

"no, max. 8 A/ASi network, redundant supply ":

1 ASi power supply per ASi network. Gateway is powered in normal operation from one of the two ASi power supplies.

Should one ASi power supply fail, switching to the other ASi power supply allows all the diagnostics functions to be maintained and the unaffected ASi network continues to operate.

" no, max. 8 A/ASi network ":

1 ASi power supply per ASi network.

Integrated decoupling, ASi current measurement in the gateway

Access to ASi master and safety monitor via own software from Bihl+Wiedemann using the diagnostic interface (e.g. USB, RJ45, RS232). For certain devices with Ethernet-based fieldbus (PROFINET, EtherNet/IP), there is also the option of diagnostics and configuration directly via the fieldbus interface.

The latest version of the device description file of the gateway/gateway with integrated safety monitor (GSD, GSDML, EDS, etc.) is available in the "Downloads" section of the respective device.

Diagnostic and configuration interface
Safety communication

Safe inputs can be configured as 1-channel or 2-channels depending on the desired application or PL and SIL level.

Inputs Safety, SIL 3, Cat. 4
Outputs Safety, SIL 3, cat. 4

Detects whether the same address has been assigned to two ASi nodes. Frequent error when using a handheld addressing device.

Recognition of duplicate ASi addresses

Checks the ASi line for interference effects such as noise, external voltages, ...

ASi fault detector

Using a C-program offers the possibility to run mini-PLC functions with a gateway.
