ASi Modules with integrated IO-Link Masters

With the ASi modules with integrated IO-Link masters from Bihl+Wiedemann intelligent IO-Link sensors and actuators can now be easily incorporated into ASi – exactly there, where they are needed. The IO-Link sensors can be easily parametrized using the configuration tool from Bihl+Wiedemann.

In many application scenarios, IO-Link solutions from Bihl+Wiedemann are much more cost-efficient than similar solutions from other providers. An application with Bihl+Wiedemann is already cheaper than comparable PROFINET variants from three 4-port IO-Link masters. Another factor is the finer granularity. Our 1-port IO-Link master allows you to integrate an IO-Link device exactly where you need it. Thanks to cable-piercing technology, it is extremely easy to install our IO-Link master. You can substantially reduce the time required for assembly.

"IP20":
Protected against solid foreign bodies having a diameter of 12.5 mm or larger and against finger contact, not protected against water.


"IP40":

Protected against solid foreign bodies having a diameter of 1.0 mm or larger, protected against access with a wire, no protection against water.

"IP54":

Protection against dust in damaging amounts, complete protection against contact, protection against splashing water in any angle.


"IP65":
Dust-tight, full protection against contact, protection against spray water (jet) from any angle.

"IP67":

Dust-tight, full protection against contact, protection against temporary immersion.

Number of IO-Link Ports

Port class A (M12): Pin 4 configurable (IO-Link/DI/DO), additional digital input at pin 2. Compatible with 3 pol IO-Link devices (M8).

Configurable conectors: Terminal assignment (C/Q, L+, L-, I) compatible with pin assigment of IO-Link port class A (M12). Connected IO-Link devices with port class B (M12) with a higher current consumption have to be supplied directly via a separate power supply. Compatible with 3 pol IO-Link devices (M8).

IO-Link Port Class A

Port class B (M12): Pin 4 configurable (IO-Link/DI/DO), additional power supply (galvanically isolated) for IO-Link devices at pins 2 and 5. Compatible with 3 pol IO-Link devices (M8).

Configurable conectors: Terminal assignment (C/Q, L+, L-, I) compatible with pin assigment of IO-Link port class A (M12). Connected IO-Link devices with port class B (M12) with a higher current consumption have to be supplied directly via a separate power supply. Compatible with 3 pol IO-Link devices (M8).

IO-Link Port Class B

IO-Link and additional inputs/outputs are supplied by ASi or by AUX (auxiliary 24 V power). If supplied by ASi, inputs can neither be connected to earth nor to external potential.

Sensor supply (IO-Link supply and input/output supply)

Connection via M12: For IO-Link ports class B the supply of actuators is provided by an additional (galvanically isolated) power supply by AUX (auxiliary 24 V power) via Pin 2 (P24) and Pin 5 (N24).

Connection via clamps: If connected IO-Link Devices with IO-Link ports class B need a higher current consumption, additionally they can be supplied directly via the power supply.

Actuator supply (for IO-Link ports class B)

COM1 = 4.8 kBaud

COM2 = 38.4 kBaud

COM3 = 230.4 kBaud (optional according to Specification V1.0)

 

An IO-Link device supports only one of the defined data transmission rates.

According to Specification V1.1, the IO-Link master supports all data transmission rates and adapts itself automatically to the data transmission rate supported by the device.

The connection to ASi as well to AUX (auxiliary 24 V power) is made via yellow resp. black ASi profile cable with piercing technology or via M12 socket (in IP20 via clamps).


Line protection: If the module is supplied via a M12 connection with A or B coding, it may only be used with a current load of max. 4 A per pin in acc. with IEC 61076-2-101 and IEC 61076-2-109. A fused tap is recommended. There is no such limitation for modules supplied via piercing contacts.

ASi connection

AB address (max. 62 AB addresses/ASi network), 2 AB addresses (max. 31 modules with 2 AB addresses), Single addresses (max. 31 Single addresses/ASi network), ASi-5 address (max. 62 ASi-5 addresses/ASi network), mixed use allowed.
For ASi modules with two ASi nodes the second Asi node is turned off as long as the first Asi node is addressed to address "0".
Upon request, ASi modules are available with specific ASi node profiles.
