Predictive Maintenance Thanks to ASi-5 and IO-Link

Machines Made Industry 4.0-Capable

In 2020, SPAX developed a concept with Bihl+Wiedemann to make all machines Industry 4.0-capable. IO-Link was selected for the sensor system, and ASi-5 is used to integrate IO-Link. OPC UA was selected to make the process and diagnostic data available for evaluation by the IT department.

 

Machine conversion is easy to implement. Existing ASi-3 gateways can be substituted by new ASi-5/ASi-3 PROFINET gateways with integrated safety monitor and OPC UA interface; compact IO-Link masters replace existing digital ASi modules. The converted machines now enable predictive maintenance. In addition to digital information, the connected IO-Link devices can now also provide process and diagnostic values.

ASi-5 guides storage and retrieval machine safely through the aisles

Klinkhammer Intralogistics relies on safety solutions from Bihl+Wiedemann for the new storage and retrieval machine (SRM) in an automated high-bay warehouse. ASi-5 Safety Gateways connected via Safe Link enable safe communication between the moving stacker crane and the control cabinet. Accelerating and decelerating the stacker crane as quickly as possible maximizes the throughput of goods.

ASi-5 simplifies RIELEC installations

Thanks to the ASi-5 technology, RIELEC Logistic Systems reduces installation costs and increases the flexibility of its projects. One of the key benefits of AS-Interface is that it enables machines to be assembled and disassembled quickly and easily. In addition, signals of all types can be easily integrated into the communication bus. The RIELEC Fit Sorter package sorter uses ASi-5 to control LED strips and to monitor conveyor belt sections. The ASi-5 gateways are responsible for collecting process and diagnostic information which is then transmitted to both the PLC and the cloud.

The brewery, which recently opened in April 2019, was designed and built by the brewery experts GEA Process Engineering A/S. All the brewery’s processes including ASi Masters and motors are controlled via PROFINET by two Siemens PLCs.
