Building materials company simplifies wiring thanks to ASi

Since 1967, the company LIP Bygningsartikler, based in Nørre Aaby (Denmark), has been producing highly automated products for the construction industry, including tile mortar, silicone, epoxy resin, grout, filler, sealant and more. With an ASi solution from Bihl+Wiedemann, the building materials company has greatly simplified the wiring of a new warehouse for pre-packed pallets – using 12 roller conveyor modules developed in-house.

Savings of Roughly 22% Compared to Conventional Wiring

All roller conveyor modules have their own geared motor with integrated control system. They are connected to each other as well as to the sensors and the higher-level PLC via an ASi network with integrated safety technology. New roller conveyor modules can be added easily thanks to ASi – without the need for additional wiring to the PLC. The ASi network also includes an automated guided vehicle with Lenze Smart Motors and ASi motor modules from Bihl+Wiedemann.

Bihl+Wiedemann evaluated the total cost of materials and installation time for the 12 roller conveyor modules used. The result: a system using conventional wiring costs around 22% more than one based on AS-Interface.

ASi-5 guides storage and retrieval machine safely through the aisles

Predictive maintenance thanks to ASi-5 and IO-Link

SPAX International produces up to 50 million screws each day. To make the machines in production Industry 4.0-capable, the company relies on ASi-5/ASi-3 PROFINET gateways with an integrated safety monitor and compact IO-Link masters. The machines can be easily converted and now facilitate predictive maintenance. In addition to digital information, IO-Link devices can now also provide process and diagnostic values.

Danish brewery saves over 2.5 km of cable thanks to ASi

The brewery, which recently opened in April 2019, was designed and built by the brewery experts GEA Process Engineering A/S.
