Ardo A/S are now saving forklift time in their freezer room

The Danish food manufacturer Ardo A/S produces between 8,000 and 10,000 metric tons of frozen peas per year at its factory in Orehoved. Once the peas have been packed and placed on standard pallets, they must be taken to the freezer room for storage. For this purpose, Bihl+Wiedemann has developed an ASi system that saves Ardo time when using forklift trucks.
 

Functionally Reliable at 20 Degrees Celsius Below Zero

The ASi system always works reliably, despite constant temperatures of -20 °C (-4 °F). It comprises two driven conveyor belts inside and two palletizing machines outside the freezer room. A total of 30 Lenze smart motors and just as many motor modules from Bihl+Wiedemann are used in the system, which is controlled by an ASi master housed in a control cabinet outside the freezer room.
 

The ASi master transmits the data to the PLC via a PROFINET connection. The advantage of this system is that Ardo now saves time in the freezer room. This is particularly the case when pallets have to be moved back and forth between the conveyor belts and the storage racks – until they are then returned and packed ready for sale.

Predictive maintenance thanks to ASi-5 and IO-Link

SPAX International produces up to 50 million screws each day. To make the machines in production Industry 4.0-capable, the company relies on ASi-5/ASi-3 PROFINET gateways with an integrated safety monitor and compact IO-Link masters. The machines can be easily converted and now facilitate predictive maintenance. In addition to digital information, IO-Link devices can now also provide process and diagnostic values.

Danish brewery saves over 2.5 km of cable thanks to ASi

The brewery, which recently opened in April 2019, was designed and built by the brewery experts GEA Process Engineering A/S. All the brewery’s processes including ASi Masters and motors are controlled via PROFINET by two Siemens PLCs.
