If you take a close look at the history of Bihl+Wiedemann, working in partnership, even with direct market competitors, has been part of our corporate strategy from the very beginning. While development services for other manufacturers were initially a key factor for developing and creating one's own products, they are now an excellent opportunity to subject one's own company's development expertise to permanent benchmark tests from external sources. Of course, cooperative ventures – especially between competitors – are always something very confidential and entail quite a few challenges. However, they also offer all participants the chance to create products and solutions in a short time, which would often probably not even exist without joint efforts.
Cooperative ventures often start with the desire of machine builders or users to obtain products that combine the core areas of expertise of two or more companies. By bundling the respective core areas of expertise, it is not uncommon for new products and solutions to emerge that not only bring competitive advantages to the cooperation partners, but frequently also open up new sales opportunities.
One example of successful development cooperation is Turck's hybrid safety/standard block I/O module TBPN, which is a world's first. In this case, together with the automation specialist Turck, we have succeeded in combining their standard and IO-Link ports with our safety electronics for safe inputs and outputs, including the associated safety software, to create a multifunctional, robust Profinet/Profisafe I/O module in IP65/67/69k.
